31 January 2015 - Day 47 - Raise the Roof

15 Days in a row to see the progress.... obsessive???  Maybe a little.  It's just amazing to see the structure take shape so quickly.  I'm sure we'll be throttling back our visits once the house is totally enclosed and all the work is done on the outside.

By the time we got out there today, the workers must have quit for the day.  Looks like more than half of the roof trusses have been placed, which means the roof should be complete and hopefully covered before the rain hits us on Monday.

Day 47

Day 47 Selfie with the kiddy cat.  I should have strapped on my GoPro to him and had him climb up to the roof to inspect.  Maybe next time :-)

Roof peaks still on the ground.... I think I like it better without peaks.

Doesn't look like there will be much walking room in the attic once this is all complete.

30 January 2015 - Day 46 - Exterior Paneling

Second Floor framing looks complete and the house ensclosing has started.  I walked around the whole house to see how well they were butting up the panels... I could see lots of daylight between some of the panels.  I'll ask the PM if they can use some expanding foam to fill those up as I do not think the house wrap would suffice.  I also noticed that a water meter has been installed for the property.

Anyone experience these gaps between the paneling?  And did they fix it?

29 January 2015 - Day 45 - Second Floor and Roof Trusses

Yep.... That's the second floor framing going up already and house wrap is already in place. The house is now starting to take shape and is also showing its size.

So I stand corrected from my post yesterday. It looks like the steel I-Beam did go in the garage ceiling. They must have installed that in today. There is also sign of exterior paneling going up, which means we are getting very close to having the house closed up.

The roof trusses were also delivered from Ryan Homes this morning. I think this might be one of the only things that's pre-manufacted from the company. I must have seen/heard the video of those trusses being manufactured inside a climate controlled environment a hundred times while viewing the model.

On a side note, I can't say enough good things about NVR mortgage. I had plans on going with another bank that had slightly better rates; however, NVR remained engaged with me along the way which made the loan approval process very easy.

Looking good.

Side morning room walls still missing. The two right window cutouts on the 2nd floor are to the Master Bedroom and the one on the left is to the Master Bath.

Two left window cutouts upstairs are to the master bed.

Top right window to the spare bedroom

You can see that metal I-Beam in the garage.

Somewhat concerning to see half those subfloor adhesive tubes unused and thrown all over the ground. It's possible the adhesive froze during these cold temps we've had here. I sure hope my floors don't creak/squeek and do not allow moisture through.

28 January 2015 - Day 44 - Second Floor build has started

The wood piles on the ground are shrinking while the house is getting bigger and fatter. As I got there this afternoon, they were laying the 2nd floor down.  It also looks like they installed all the load bearing wood laminate throughout the house. Ryan Homes must have quit using the steel I-Beams in the garage. I've seen other house build blogs where the owners had Steel beams installed.

Day 44

These guys are just busting their ass getting this house built. I wish I could lend a hand.

Garage load bearing wood laminate installed. This must take place of the typical I beam.

27 January 2015 - Day 43 - First Floor Framing Underway

Its true what they say..... once the crawl-space foundation is complete the framing goes up very quickly. As we drove around the corner, and towards the house we didn't see much activity, then we were amazed to see the first floor framing almost complete.  We were sceptical that anything was going to get done today, especially after all the school and work delays due to the little snow we had throughout the night.  Yes, the Hampton Roads, VA area almost shuts down if there is any treat of snow.

Anyway, at this rate they may have the framing complete by the end of the week if the weather cooperates.

The more we look at the house, the smaller it appears.  Doesn't seem like it will be 3250 sqft.  I'm gonna have to measure each room and add this up when it's all done.
